Let's See If You Have An Ah-Hah Moment While You Are Reading This!

Step 1 - When making your campaign promises, be honest, don't over commit! During your campaign, let everyone know that you are only going to make campaign promises you know that you can actually fulfill.  After you are elected, tell your supporters that  you can't do it alone, you need their help to keep pressure on other elected officials to help you fulfill your promises.  Set up a mechanism to keep the lines of communications open with your supporters.

Step 2 - Destroy the lie machine! Once you are elected, your first objective should be to get legislation enacted that empowers the FCC to enforce political false advertising regulations. False advertising is NOT free speech. The FTC is empowered to prosecute people or companies that make false claims about products, political false advertising by surreptitiously financed special interest groups is a far more serious offense that undermines our democracy!

Step 3 - To avoid a conflict of interest, when selecting your appointees, don't appoint someone who was or is a CEO or higher up in the industry they are supposed to regulate.  See step 4.

Step 4 - Don't be afraid to appoint experienced highly skilled ordinary employees because they are the ones who really know how their industry operates and will be more objective, i.e. a Broadcast Engineer to the FCC for broadcast technical issues or a Broadcast Journalist for news content and fairness issues or an Airline Pilot or Air Traffic Controller to the FAA, etc.

Step 5 - Even though it's a tall order, you must do more to put a firewall between our elected officials and corporate lobbyists.  Give the voter preferential access, not wealthy corporations.

Step 6 - Don't bite the hand that feeds you! If unions and their members worked hard for you and put their faith in you, don't tell them that you've got their backs during your campaign, then give them little more than lip service after you are elected.  If idealistic progressives worked hard for you and put their faith in you, don't tout great, transformative social reform like health care during your campaign, then allow key elements of the plan to be compromised away without much of a fight after you are elected.

Step 7 - Don't hide behind your advisors! Assume that the public will consider any statement on any issue made by members of your cabinet or any close advisor to be reflective of your official policy.  Two good examples of that are: Rahm Emmanuel's reported blurting out of "Fuck the UAW" sends the wrong message to union members.  The Robert Gibbs "Professional Left" comment seems to say, thanks suckers, we have no further need for you now.  You're an adult, take full responsibility for the people who are YOUR choices. You should be saying, "the buck stops here"!

Step 8 - Don't try to be all things to all people! When you try to be everything to everyone, you wind up being nothing to everyone.  You have to focus on the people who supported you and helped you to win the election. The empty phrase, "I am Everyone's President, Governor, Mayor really means that you have no loyalty to the people who helped you the most.

Step 9 - Bipartisanship doesn't work in this day and age because - THE OTHER PARTY DOESN'T WANT YOU TO SUCCEED!!!  If you can't understand something as obvious as that, we must assume that there are other, less honorable motives for that "bipartisanship"

Step 10 - Above all else, don't campaign against your predecessor's record then continue many of his programs and policies after you are elected. Voters will doubt your judgment, your ethics or both.
