When I was young I used to vote solely based on the political party a candidate was affiliated with. As I got older I voted based on the candidates ideology (he/she was selling me). Fact is, while I still go and vote, I find myself more and more voting for the "lesser evil".
Finding out what a candidate is about and what he/she stands for is not exactly easy. To often you hear promises from candidates prior to an election and afterwards they will do something else (vested interest being one of the reasons).
Democracy is in my view the best form of government. There is plenty of room for improvement (this goes for all democratic countries).
A democracy that is 'socially just', is what we should strive for. In order to achieve social justice legislation as well as laws need to be changed. Trying to eliminate corruption (both legal and illegal) would be a good start. (I could go on and on here!) I like to see politicians that represent 'we the people' and not 'we the corporations'.

The unfortunate reality is that I'm just an average citizen and no matter who I vote for or what I say, politicians do not listen nor talk with me!

I have always said that I hope that in my lifetime, I would be able to see "the people" finally say "enough is enough!" and take back our government. I believe that, based on the path we are currently on, we are heading that way at an accelerated pace. The ideology of a person running for elected office means everything, but it means even more if that person is held accountable for their actions after they get elected!

We definitely are living in a very exciting time!
