If you happened to watch most of the network and local TV news coverage of the One Nation March On Washington, you probably noticed several massive distortions of the truth.  The most glaring and most prevalent out and out LIE came from several broadcast "journalists" who stated or implied that the One Nation March was hastily done in reaction to the Tea Party rally that was fielded by a certain right wing talk show host one month earlier.  Correct me if I'm wrong, as I recall, the One Nation March was announced in early spring (in March, I believe) of 2010, probably planned way earlier.  The second major distortion of the truth was the inevitable crowd size comparison between the September march and the One Nation March, there was none because the One Nation March had double the crowd size!  Finally, we had to subject ourselves to the glib remarks implying that the the purpose of the march was to shore up support for a Democratic Party that is desperate for help in November.  Hello mainstream media, the One Nation March On Washington's purpose was to unite working people, the unemployed, the middle class, the poor and fight for their interests!  The march wasn't a mere pep rally for the Democratic Party!

We have a couple of ways to fix sloppy journalism, be it intentional or otherwise.  We can call the offending station's news department and demand that the "journalist" in question be given a course in remedial journalism 101 where he or she will be reminded of the meaning of the five W's of journalism.  We can call the offending TV stations and tell them that we are going to boycott their sponsors until they clean up their act.   While those methods provide immediate personal satisfaction, they only fix a small part of a widespread problem.

The only way we can fix the distortions and undue political influence that is rampant in the broadcast media is to contact our electeds and demand that they enact modifications to the Communications Acts. similar to the Fairness Doctrine, etc.  that empower the FCC to enforce equal, fair and undistorted broadcast journalism.  As a broadcaster, I know that biased and slanted reporting in some segments of the mainstream media can literally change the results of an election by what is said or not said about a person or issue.  We're talking about a future of our democracy issue here!  If you can distort how you report the news, are Federally licensed to use the airwaves, a natural resource that is owned by every American and on loan to you to be used in the public interest and are big enough to influence enough potential voters, you should be subject to regulatory oversight.  We the people can no longer allow you to hijack the truth on behalf of a few corporate interests!

Spread that unity message elsewhere, not even the gays are buying it! When the "pretend democrats" (ie: socialist /commie/weirdos) get their tushies handed to them this November, thank a gay man! When Liberals started flinging the term "teabagger" around it was only funny to the gay folks the first few weeks. After more than a year of seeing our gayness flung around as an insult do you really think the gays are rushing out to vote for bigots? The gays are smart enough to know you hateful bigots will replace "teabagger" with some other group of people you want to oppress, just like the Germans!

We've gotten used to republicans, their contempt is expected, we never expected too see that type of hateful bigotry to come from the left, and that's why the gays are leaving that little party in record numbers. We only stick with the home team when they're not hateful hypocrite bigots. Democrats need to have a Tea Party of their own and toss the progressives, communists, and socialists out to form their own party. There's a reason you didn't see the DNC at the One Nation rally, even they know anti-american propaganda when they see it.

Keep telling yourself the crowd was bigger, Americans know the truth and we saw those lovely hate filled signs. The gays with the "burn in hell" signs really warmed my heart (LOL) It's too bad liberals didn't practice what they're preaching long ago, and my gayness will NEVER forgive the 400 groups that marched with communists, and my George Clinton/Parliament discs will sit until I figure out a way to rationalize his presence at the hate fest, one day I hope to forgive George. ;0)

Schadenfraudeliciousness is what the gays are having this election! ;0)

Jack,
I fully support your position on media bias. I feel that it's sad how people pass judgement on people without knowing them. What saddens me more is that people can only see a distorted, negative view of the Progressives. That is the worldview that they get from a corporate controlled media.

Hi M.G.,
Thanks for your comments. I could have deleted that person's post, but I believe in free speech. Hey, it's a free country and I feel that the post was more about pushing a political agenda that gay rights!

I have written to my local & national tv media. Rarely, if ever, do they even acknowledge me and my inquires to why unemployment isn't a trending topic with them.

Like you, on my blog I report facts on unemployment, where to get assistance, vote tallies, how to contact your Senators and House Representatives. There are also reports on rallies, where they will be held, and any information that I have on them.

I attended and had the honor of speaking at the UCubed Pre-Event held on 10/2/10 at the RFK Stadium along with another Jobs Activist and 10 union leaders. My small group of 3 (from Colorado and NY) also attended the ONWT Rally at the National Mall. It was a historic event.

While there were several news stations at the National Mall, there was only ONE camera filming at RFK.

My wish is that all bloggers unite to properly get the word out about the injustices the American people are enduring at the hands of their "elected officials". We must promote change! We must put an end to corporations taking OUR JOBS elsewhere (outsourcing).

I've been unemployed since April 2009, some of my friends are out of work longer than me. We are the baby boomers that only get interviews occasionally but never get hired.

STAND UP & BE HEARD! VOTE IN NOVEMBER!

Hi Elaine,
Thanks for your comments. We both know that the problem with spotty media coverage of OUR events and top of newscast coverage of Tea Party events is that the mainstream media's sponsors are usually major corporations, otherwise known as vested interests. No TV station or network wants to tick off big money sponsors.
The bright spot in all of this is that we have bloggers like you and broadcast people like me who are getting the truth out. Another major bright spot is that we have courageous unions and union initiatives like IAM's U3 fighting for the people that were hurt the most by corporate greed!

Hi Jack,
Thank you for acknowledging what has been suspected for a while now.

Tonight, while watching cbs news with Katie Couric, I was surprised with her series American Voices and interviewing some unemployed people from Cleveland, OH.

What the news media doesn't realize, in my opinion, is that no matter how much they get from "big money sponsors", we don't have to watch their broadcasts or the commercials. We could start a boycott of news media sponsors, and then write to them all stating we aren't watching and not buying their products.

Perhaps then they will stop sweeping the unemployed (myself included) under the rug. It is my firm belief that "WE THE PEOPLE" have more strength than the almighty dollar.
