Show 115 - Constitution? Which Constitution? Democracy? Which Democracy?

Did you ever wonder if those who use the phrase "The Constitution is a living document" are just putting down a smokescreen to hide the fact that our Constitution is being rigged beyond recognition by those who would hand over complete control of our country to few billionaires? After looking back at various events that occurred over the past forty or so years, many of them discussed on this web site and on my show, it should become clear to you that we have been the victims of a slow-motion de facto coup d' etat perpetrated by a handful of billionaires, the corporations that they control and the shill organizations that they created to wrest control of our nation. All of that could not have been accomplished without the help of a cadre of corrupt elected officials who are all too eager to "thank" those billionaires for their campaign contributions and other forms of largesse by giving them the keys to our government. In a situation like this, knowledge is power.

Show 114 - You Should Never Believe Words Designed To Deceive!

A favorite ploy of corporate owned electeds in Congress, The Senate and your friendly neighborhood Statehouse is to give legislation that they write and issues that they support titles or names that make things that are harmful to your average voter look good. They do so at the behest of the corporations and one percenters who own their souls and are the usually the real beneficiaries of most legislation. I have a few glaring examples that have really hurt working people and their families over the years.

Show 113 - Taxpayers To Corps: Get Your Hands Out Of Our Pockets!

In the years since the Reagan regime started and subsequent administrations continued a corporate job offshoring free for all, America and it's future has been sacrificed on the altar of corporate profits. Corporations who ship jobs overseas pit American workers against workers in third world countries who make third world wages, causing U.S. wages to stagnate or drop. Job offshoring also destroys America's manufacturing infrastructure, causes trade deficits, unemployment and a loss of tax revenue. In essence, we the taxpayers are subsidizing corporate profiteering by paying for the collateral damage it causes. If we let this situation continue, we will become a third world corporate banana republic.

Show 112 - Enough Is Enough!

The government shutdown is a callous abuse of power by elected representatives from a political party that has taken on the elimination of The Affordable Care Act, what it calls "ObamaCare." ACA is a law that, as its primary objective, extends the benefits of healthcare to many more Americans! The GOP is so obsessed with repealing ACA before it fully goes into effect and proves itself that it wasted taxpayers' money in forty two failed attempts to repeal it! They have now reached an all time low by refusing to hold budget talks until ACA becomes a bargaining chip. In my opinion, shutting down government because a political party doesn't like a law passed by the opposition party violates a politician's fiduciary responsibility and is borderline illegal! The politically biased mainstream media has presented the situation in the false context of "both sides refusing to talk."

Show 111 - RE: Snowden, Who Are The Real Traitors?

The purpose of this show isn't to defend Edward Snowden, it's to condemn the hypocrisy of our corporate owned electeds for their orgy of accusations against Snowden. They are accusing him of being a traitor because he revealed information to the South China Morning Post that the USA has conducted hacking operations on various locations in Hong Kong and China. By those standards, our corporate owned electeds are guilty of being mega "traitors" because they lowered trade barriers with China, enabling greedy corps who claim to be American corps. to offshore their manufacturing to China, giving them valuable trade secrets as a byproduct.

Show 110 - He Who Trades Constitutional Rights For Security Deserves Neither!

When President Obama flippantly used the phrase "you can't have 100% privacy and 100% security" to justify giving the NSA draconian powers to run an Orwellian program that looked at the phone records of millions of US citizens and later, casually dismissed the PRISM program by saying that congress had been briefed on and approved it, he hit my last nerve. Do any of our electeds have the slightest concept of the protections offered by any part of the Constitution? Show 109 - "Sheltering In Place" Was Both Boston Strong And Boston Smart!

There are some self-serving Monday morning quarterbacks out there who are now second guessing Boston's powers that be asking residents to "shelter in place" during the Marathon bombers' murderous rampage. These blowhards who, in most cases, live nowhere near Boston think that they have everything to gain by comparing the handling of the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombing with the days following 9/11. In reality, they have everything to lose because all they really accomplished is to focus our attention on many of the failures of the Bush administration. In all honesty, comparing the Boston Marathon bombing with 9/11 is like comparing apples and oranges, the only commonality is that both cities have brave first responders and courageous citizens.

Show 108 - In The Case Of Chained CPI, "Let's Do It For The Children" = B.S.

Chained CPI Helps The "Children" Of This Neighborhood.
When it comes to the debate on Social Security cuts, we've all heard GOP politicians spewing endless nonsense about making the cuts because they are "doing it for the children." You expect that kind of garbage from Republican electeds because most of them seem to feel that their real constituency consists of the sugar daddies and mommies who paid for their campaigns, not the voters who cast the actual votes. When you hear the same bull from some diehard Obama supporters defending his chained CPI Social Security cuts, it boggles the imagination and really makes you question the "two" party system.

Show 107 - Obama's Chained CPI Proposal, An Imbalanced Approach!

Much to my frustration and disgust, it looks like Barack Obama is continuing to use Social Security cost of living adjustments as a bargaining chip to induce (read that grovel and beg) the GOP to return to the bargaining table. The sad thing about the whole situation is that Obama is using inflation to effectively cut Social Security, hoping that no one will notice. Well, I notice and I hope that you will notice and speak out about it before it is too late. To protect your future retirements, I ask you to ignore the brainwashed and just look at the raw facts.

Show 106 - Electeds Listen-up: If You're Against A Minimum Wage Increase, I'm For Price Controls!

Some of our electeds get downright upset when anyone so much as suggests that the minimum wage needs to be increased. They say that giving someone who works his or her butt off for a multi-billion dollar corporation a raise of a few cents per hour will somehow cause that corp. to stop hiring and possibly lay off people. In other words, they hit you with their stock "job creator" nonsense which was probably created for them by the corps. that own them! I say that the real job creators are ordinary people with money in their pockets to spend and giving them more money means more jobs.
When a corp. raises the prices of its products, it really kills sales and jobs by making those products unaffordable. Now that's the biggest job killer of all!

Show 105 - SOTU: A Tale Of Illegally Bared Nipples And Chained CPI!

Recently, a GOP North Carolina State Representative* co-sponsored a bill that would make it a felony for a woman to expose her nipples. With all the problems that a state like North Carolina has, this State Representative has chosen to address the fast growing North Carolina nipple exposure crisis. While I'd like to say that this bit of silly and pointless (pardon the pun) lawmaking is an isolated incident, it seems to be the typical product of GOP lawmakers who choose to legislate their brand of morality to distract their base from serious issues that really matter, like the GOP tendency to lower taxes for the rich at the expense of everyone else.

Show 104 - President Obama's Chained CPI Proposal = Let Them Eat Cake!

With all of President Obama's talk of not cutting Social Security during his campaign, his current proposal to replace the time proven fixed CPI method of calculating the cost of living for the purposes of calculating cost of living increases in Social Security, for Veteran's benefits and for tax rates is disappointing at best. Chained CPI is nothing but an inherently deceptive stealth cut to Social Security and other benefits which guarantees that inflation will effectively shrink a Social Security check in a relatively short period of time. The icing on this cake is that Nancy Pelosi endorses this pillaging of our senior citizens. I guess they don't make Democrats like they used to!

Show 103 - Mr. President, You Won, They Lost - Act Accordingly!

There were a few disturbing parts of the President's acceptance speech that lead me to believe that President Obama hasn't learned a lesson from four long years of dealing with obstructionist Republicans. When he starts to say things like "In the weeks ahead, I also look forward to sitting down with Governor Romney to talk about where we can work together to move this country forward.", I begin to worry. I begin to fear four more years ahead of us of sickening compromise posing as "change." If we, as Democratic voters, as middle class voters, as working voters, as retired voters, as union voters thought that Mitt Romney had any valid ideas, we wouldn't have voted for Barack Obama. If we wanted to make the Republican agenda part of our future, we would have become and voted Republican. My advice to the President and the Democratic party is to defend, not compromise traditional Democratic social safety net programs.

Show 102 - Hurricane Sandy's Object Lesson For The GOP:
When it comes to the deficit - Those are just numbers, these are people!

The GOP seems to have an unhealthy obsession with austerity. When I say austerity, I mean austerity for us, not for their supporters, mega corporations and the rich. Hence the real purpose of their agenda of austerity is to balance the budget on our backs so their well heeled supporters can get the tax breaks they don't deserve. To get you to support that agenda, one that will destroy your present and future, they con you into thinking that austerity now will insure your children's future. To see how destructive that kind of thinking is, imagine the outcome if President Obama didn't pull out all the fiscal stops in dealing with hurricane Sandy.

Show 101 - Hey Mitt Romney, Respect The Office Of The President Of The United States!

Someone should tell Mitt Romney that patriotic Americans respect the office of the President Of The United States. His conduct in both debates was reprehensible. He was talking down to President Obama as if he were the President's superior dressing an underling down in a corporate setting . Whether his demeanor was caused by a feeling of superiority based on his wealth or for other reasons, he came off arrogant, insulting and obnoxious. To add insult to injury, his son made an uncalled for post debate comment.

Show 100 - Moderation Wade Style - Moderators Should Moderate!

If you were upset by the first Romney/Obama debate, you're not alone. The part that really got to me was that I felt that Jim Lehrer let things get completely out of control. He set specific time limits that Willard Romney immediately ignored. At that point, it became a free for all with Willard going as far as to have the audacity to show disrespect for Jim Lehrer by threatening to defund PBS, the institution that hosts his newscast. Show 99 - Small Business Job Creators: Pawns In The GOP Chess Game!

If you've been watching the GOP convention, you've heard various Republican types invoke the phrase "job creators" over and over again. They like to use that phrase when referring to small mom and pop businesses. You might be surprised to know that I agree that mom and pop businesses are "job creators" and community builders. A small business owner has more in common with a person who works for a paycheck than with a multinational corporation. The paycheck earner and the mom and pop business owner both struggle to make ends meet.
The GOP likes to say that excessive government regulations hurt small businesses. In reality, they are being hurt a lack of government regulations on predatory mega corps.

Show 98 - Help Undecided Friends Pick Their Electeds With The Wade Candidate Selection Method

Do you have a friend who looks like a deer in the headlights every time he or she watches a political campaign ad? Does that friend tell you that all of those phony ads out there are causing serious fear, uncertainty and doubt to the point where he or she is undecided about which candidate choose. Those ads are interfering with a decision that could potentially affect everything from the future of Social Security and Medicare to the future of unions and the future of the American worker. Thanks to the ads, your friend suffers from distorted political ad overload syndrome and I just happen to have the cure.
As you know, I have been agonizing for years over a system that lets corporate money pay for distorted political propaganda ads, that put candidates into office who owe them their souls. Our system refers to the corporations who buy those ads as "people" and the massive amounts of money spent as "free" speech! Wow, now money literally talks! That so called "free" speech is what's confusing your friend and I think that I finally have a way around it that doesn't need any help from our electeds.

Show 96 - Neil Munro, The Hypocrisy Of His Interruption!

When internet White House correspondent Neil Munro interrupted President Obama a few days ago, I wasn't shocked by rudeness of his act, I was stunned by the hypocrisy of what he was saying. He interrupted the President's speech on immigration by blurting out "Why do you favor foreigners over Americans?" Later on, he yelled, "What about American workers who are unemployed, while you employ foreigners?"
Now mind you, all President Obama is trying to do is to give a relatively small amount of young people a break who are in this country through no fault of their own. If Neil Munro thinks that it is a threat to American workers, how about the massive job offshoring that has been going on for years and is the real source of unemployment in this country? Oops, didn't Mitt Romney find that profitable?

Show 95 - Fight The Lesser Of Two Evils Bluff With This Ultimatum!

For many years, working people have been trapped into voting for candidates who, even though they talk a good game, get their marching orders from the same corporate lobbyists as their opposition. Either the corps win with the Democrats or win big with the Republicans. Conversely either workers lose big with the Republicans or just lose with the Democrats. Show 94 - A Deeply Personal Message About Health Care

Having a close member of your family develop a life-threatening condition such as cancer makes you keenly aware of his or her mortality and starts your mind and heart racing. My wife is about to undergo cancer surgery so suffice it to say, I am a basket case right now. Although cancer may be a nightmare, I can think of a worse scenario, having cancer without having health insurance.
My wife is lucky enough to have health insurance that may not cover everything, but it gets her in the hospital door. However, many of us are not so lucky and are doomed to a life of putting their health care needs on the back burner. No one should have to endure a life-threatening condition or illness without good medical treatment! Health care is a basic human right that should be a function of government! Show 93 - A Tale Of Two Systems - The Recent European Elections

The takeaway from the elections in France and Greece is that European workers and retirees will not let their respective governments impose "austerity" measures that attempt to balance a mismanaged budget on their backs. You would be dead wrong if you think that the results of those elections would be a stark warning to our electeds here. Voters in Europe can select their candidates from many parties that are across the political spectrum. However, regardless of the number of smaller parties we have in our country, the system very effectively limits us to voting for the candidates of one of the two major parties. When one party tries to balance the budget by imposing austerity on us but gives corporations and the rich a free pass and the other "compromises" with them, both hope and change are impossible.

The trusting among us would say that our electeds are exercising discretion, not wanting to prejudice the trial. Show 90 - America Needs Nationalized Healthcare, Not Mandates!

According to an old saying “anything worth having is worth fighting for.” That saying is doubly true when it comes to the health and well being of each and every American. The sad fact is that the President let the Republicans bluff him into peeling back layers of his original healthcare act, leaving us with a hollow shell that doesn't fully address the healthcare issue and may not withstand the constitutional tests of a Supreme Court that has a decidedly conservative majority. The fact is that out and out nationalization of our healthcare system would be the most effective way to deliver healthcare to everyone! Show 87 - If You Don't Ask, You Won't Get!

Tell our electeds to stop corp. job offshoring!
Many Americans are intellectually lazy! Too many of us think that we can get all of our problems solved in one neat, clean package. We think that if we vote for and elect someone who presents us with a ready made platform of solutions to all of our problems, our troubles are over. Somehow it never works out that way so we wind up sitting in front of the TV, watching the news, scratching our collective heads and wondering how things have gone so terribly wrong.
The answer is simple, if you don't ask, you won't get! When you wait for the candidates of a particular political party to come up with pre-packaged sets of solutions, you must keep in mind that they spend most of their time listening to the demands and ideas of the very same corporate lobbyists who either helped them get elected or have some form of cushy deal waiting for them when they leave office. When those lobbyists have an issue that they want addressed, the guy or gal you voted for listens because lobbyist influence and money doesn't just talk, it shouts! You just passively wait for election day to come around and hope that the guy or gal you elected will do the right thing for America's working families, even if it hurts the corporate interests that helped to finance his or her campaign.
Folks, the only way that you are going to be heard and taken seriously by our electeds is if you can convince them that they will not get your vote if they don't address your issues. The best way to do that is by signing a petition that has a large number of signatures, deals with a specific issue and tells your electeds that they won't get your vote unless they FULLY address that issue!

Show 83 - Here's How To Make Boehner Respect The Office Of The President.

Much was made of John Boehner's rejection of President Obama's request to address a joint session of Congress on September 7, a request that, up until now was routinely granted. From my perspective, this rejection is a total display of disrespect for the office of the President Of The United States. The White House's reaction to the rejection is even more troubling. They meekly accepted Boehner's alternate date of September 8.
The President needs to realize that he has reached the point where his tendency to "compromise" makes him look weak.

Show 82 - Quiz Show: Guess His Party?

After watching a few network TV reality shows, I realized that some people have entirely too much time on their hands if they consider that garbage entertainment. Keeping that in mind and knowing that you, as my listener are highly selective in your listening and viewing habits, I thought that I would bounce this concept for a quiz show off you. Hey, if you like it, perhaps we could get one of the corporate owned mainstream media outlets to turn it into an insipid quiz show to augment their nightly line up of insipid reality shows and distorted newscasts?
OK, enough of my rambling, without any further adieu, let's all play - GUESS HIS PARTY!

Show 81 - The Iowa Straw Poll, Great Entertainment Except They're Serious!

Site Of The Iowa Straw Poll
If you were in the right frame of mind last weekend, this year's Republican Iowa Straw Poll made for great entertainment. They had a cast of characters that would make Saturday Night Live jealous. Oh the people I saw, the lunatics I heard. I was having a grand old time until I came back down to earth and realized that they were serious.
Since I believe in the NYPD slogan, "If You See Something, Say Something", I decided to invite Reverend Manny to join me in a quick and spirited analysis of The Iowa Straw Poll on this website and for a detailed discussion of many issues on The Working Family Radio Network on Thursday, 8/18 at 3:05 PM EDT.

Show 80 - The Debt Ceiling: I Interview Political Scientist/Blogger Maria Allison.

Mugshot Logo From Nuts And Dolts Blog
On Monday afternoon, during the height of America's angst caused by the ongoing debt ceiling "negotiations", I interviewed Maria Allison, publisher of the Nuts And Dolts blog. We recorded an hour long interview that will air on Thursday, August 4 at 3:05 PM EDT on The Working Family Radio Network. We had a thorough discussion of the dynamics involved in all negotiations and the shortcomings of these negotiations in particular.
If you are part of the bottom 98% who didn't get their tickets punched by our "free" market system, this interview in made for you. After we recorded the Interview, Maria and I recorded a mini interview for this website. You can check it out now and visit The Working Family Radio Network on Thursday.

Show 79 - Reverend Manny Returns!

Reverend Manny will be on my show on the Working Family Radio Network on Thursday 7/14 at 3:00 PM EDT discussing today's issues. The show covers a wide range of issues that are very relevant to everyday life in this corporate owned world of ours.
Two of the highlights of the show are a thorough analysis of the politics of President "Change We Can Believe In" using threats of no "Social Security Checks in August" as a negotiating tool, frightening our Seniors as a byproduct and a brisk discussion of the News Corp, News Of The World Scandal and how it relates to their activities in the USA.
We recorded a mini show to whet your appetite for Thursday's main course.

Show 78 - Harvard & MSM: Kids Who Celebrate July 4th Will Become Republicans.

Just when you think that you've heard everything, the Main Stream Media digs deep to find a story for the Independence Day weekend that tops almost any right wing, corporatist spin that they have ever put on a news story. Almost every major TV outlet broadcast a segment on the evening news citing a Harvard University "study" that states that children who attend Patriotic Fourth Of July Celebrations at a young age are likely to become Republicans when they grow up.
Isn't that special? Doesn't that play into the long standing Republican position that they own patriotism?

Show 77 - The Lesser Of Two Evils, A Corporate Trap For Working People!

Ever since 1947, when the Republican and corpporate backed Taft-Hartley Act was passed with the help of many Democrats, working people have been stuck in a "lesser of two evils" trap! With the passage of Taft, the Democrats made the transition from the party of FDR, with it's great accomplishments for the middle class and the poor to a party that acts in complicity with the Republicans to protect the interests of corporations, Wall Street and the rich at our expense! Well meaning Democratic elected officials have their best efforts crushed by the Dems tendency towards "bipartisanship" and "compromise" a.k.a. throwing the boxing match.
Many party line Democrats like to say that a vote for a third party candidate is a vote for the Republicans, I say that there is little difference!

Show 73 - Overseas Mission Accomplished, Domestic Mission Just Beginning!

On September 11, 2001, I was an up close and personal witness to the horror that took place on that fateful day. I saw unspeakable death and suffering but also watched superhuman bravery and heroism. That experience left an indelible scar on my psyche as it did to New York's and for that matter, to America's collective psyche!
All of the horror of 9/11 was instantly conjured up every time anyone mentioned the name Osama Bin Laden. He truly was the architect of that nightmare. There was much conjecture about why the Bush administration couldn't capture Bin Laden and hold him accountable. I have my theories but, in the interest of brevity, will not go into them here. What I will say is that from where I stand, the military mission in the Middle East is accomplished!

Show 68 - I interview Author/Blogger Reverend Manny

Let's face it, I can be a very disagreeable person, just ask my wife who had to put up with me for all these years and is sentenced to put up with me for many more years. There are very few times that I agree with someone on so many points. When I started reading Reverend Manny's book, it only took a few chapters to know that I must do an interview. I interviewed him on my Thursday show on The Union Edge and also recorded one for here.
As he will be the fist to tell you, Reverend Manny is the author's pen name, not his title. Although I tend to agree with 99 percent of what he stated in his book, I don'tr agree with everything. Hey, 99 percent is pretty good considering the fact that I can be a very disagreeable person a.k.a. a grouch. His book is definitely worth a read if you are frustrated by the abject ignorance and apathy of the average American voter.

Show 67 - Corps. To Americans: Elect A CEO Governor And We Own You!

Let's face it, everyone is a product of his or her environment. If you've spent your whole life working hard for every penny that you've earned and live from paycheck to paycheck, you tend to see things differently than if you have a corporate penthouse office and make a salary that could support thousands of families. Lately, it seems like Republican or Teabag Governors come in two varieties, corporate CEOs and corporate lackeys. Neither one has much sympathy for the plight of the working person.

Did you ever notice that teabaggers seem to look at union workers with a mixture of contempt and envy? They seem to be so envious of union benefits that were earned by good old fashioned collective bargaining that the title of this show could be their motto. Their ignorant, short sighted thinking plays right into the hands of today's greedy corporate robber barons who have turned playing worker against worker into a science!

Show 65 - If We're The Majority, Why Aren't They Listening To Us?

The vast majority of Americans are NOT independently wealthy, nor are they self employed. Most Americans work day in and day out for a hard earned paycheck. Since we comprise the majority, you might think that our electeds are falling all over each other to see to it that the corporate powers that be who employ us (if we are not public employees) pay us fairly, have decent benefits and keep us working by not offshoring manufacturing to places like China.
For the most part, our electeds have put laws on the books that favor corporate interests and ignore us and the labor unions that look out for our interests!

Show 64 - Reagan Returns, Things Come Full Circle!

With every passing day, I get the feeling that even though I voted for "Change We Can Believe In", I wound up with the reincarnation of Ronald Reagan! President Obama's appointment of GE CEO Jeffrey Immelt as Chairman of the President's Council on Jobs and Competitiveness juxtaposed with his support of the South Korea US Free Trade Agreement just sealed the deal for me. As a union person, I now feel that he will do as much good for unions as Reagan did for the Air Traffic controllers.
The icing on the cake was when during his State Of The Union address, Obama stated that the South Korea US Free Trade Agreement has the "support of labor". Basically, it has the support of two unions, one of which probably gave the support as a quid pro quo for the government bailout of the automobile industry. Just about the rest of "labor" hate the agreement. The AFL-CIO strongly opposes it. The bottom line is that unions have to stop giving unconditional love, funds and votes to politicians who put corporate interests before that of working people.

President Obama's appointment of GE CEO Jeffrey Immelt to chair the newly renamed Council on Jobs and Competitiveness should send a strong message to working people. This appointment, plus the large number of corporate and Wall Street types on the council speaks volumes. There is only one, yes one representative of organized labor on the council.

Show 58 - ABC, CBS, NBC - Where Were You?

Thanks to CSPAN, I was watching Senator Bernie Sanders' marathon impassioned
speech and realized that he's one of the few politicians who gets it. He doesn't sit up on an elected pedestal and proclaim that we must take a bad deal that will only get worse as time passes. In his totally honest speech he made it clear that he will not submit to Republican extortion. To paraphrase: Yes, we have to get the Republicans to stop holding the unemployed hostage but that's a separate issue that they are using in an act of economic terrorism. Unemployment renewal was always a given in bad economic times under Republican and Democratic administrations. Why are things different now? Why do they need to be bribed with a package of goodies for the rich that will hurt the rest of us?
If you were able to watch the speech, you would have known that there was at least one politician out there who really cares about the well being of John and Jane Q. Public, not corporations and the rich. Sadly, those of you who relied on the big three networks for news got none of it. Not much better on the cable networks. At best NBC showed a quick three or so seconds of Sen. Sanders with their anchor voicing over him so you couldn't hear what he was saying. How can the American public make informed decisions on issues that affect them if they can't hear BOTH sides of an issue?

Show 57 - The Unemployed, Retired & Working People Say-Where's My New Deal?

Over the past thirty or so years, there has been a systematic transfer of wealth from the poor and middle class to the rich. This looting of America's working people by various corporate interests was aided and abetted by politicians who were all too eager to sacrifice the future of American workers and their families on the altar of deregulation. All of that deregulation and game playing reached a crescendo during the Bush administration and led to the current depre... oops, I mean recession.
When we were chanting "Yes We Can" and elected Barack Obama President, we expected the second coming of FDR's "The New Deal", Wall Street and the Banks got that and we got The Raw Deal. After much soul searching, I realize that it's easy to be an apologist for President Obama's record to date if you aren't one of those poor unfortunates: who is unemployed, who is barely making a living by holding down multiple part time jobs, who had his/her job outsourced, who is retired and has to worry about an Obama appointed Deficit Commission.
I will NOT do that!

Show 56 - Exporting, Corporate Snake Oil For Working People!

Our unemployment problem is causing many politicians to grasp at straws for answers. They are so eager to preserve the "free" trade, globalization structure they created for their corporate benefactors that the prospect of exporting even a small fraction of what we import is causing them to salivate. Working people, don't kid yourselves. Our electeds know that there's only one way to fix our economy. They have to undo the damage they caused in the first place!

Show 55 - For Survival's Sake, The Democrats Must Become The New Party Of No!

The Republicans have richly earned the title "The Party Of No" by obstructing almost every Democratic initiative that would have eased the Bushwhacked economy's burden on the middle class, the poor and the unemployed. The Democratic response to those Republican political roadblocks was to water down their initiatives to placate the Republicans and show their "bipartisan" spirit. The Republicans responded with a flat NO to almost everything. The end result was that some really good legislation that started as soaring campaign promises wound up as so many pieces of unfinished business or worse, legislation that didn't pass.
Once again, the Democrats are talking about "bipartisanship". This time around, that could mean erasing some of the hard fought gains of fairness and social equity that managed to survive the first round of "bipartisanship".

Show 50 - Dignity & Respect

Corporations: Workers are commodities, not people.
The unspoken casualty of the current U.S. depre... er, I mean recession is the dignity of the American worker and the respect that corporations and by extension, the politicians they own have for workers and their families. This isn't a new situation by any means but the culmination of years of corporate manipulation of the American system. Politicians from BOTH parties have supported unpatriotic "free" trade agreements that shipped our jobs overseas, destroyed our manufacturing infrastructure and are a major cause of our current unemployment problems. Unions are not getting the solid support they deserve from EITHER party.

Since most of our politicians have turned a deaf ear to the needs of their voting constituency, I have taken the liberty of going over their heads to the people who get their undivided attention - corporate CEOs!

What really hurts is when party line Democrats, self-appointed keepers of the faith accuse you of helping the Republicans win elections in November.
My being a union member complicates the issue because the Obama administration is about to sign The South Korean Free Trade agreement in the midst of already high unemployment. Reminder: Bill Clintion's NAFTA caused a wave of job offshoring, making his administration a disaster for working people. Show 42 - Who Is Divisive?

Some Democrats seem to be overly concerned about progressives dividing the party. What they fail to realize is that the Democratic party politicians are dividing the party by their actions. When working people see banksters and Wall Street getting bailouts while their homes are being repossesed. When working people see unemployment rise while Wall Street big-wigs get huge bonuses. When working people see almost every Democratic initiative that could help them compromised by internal bickering caused by the blue dogs, they either give up on the political process or, God forbid become Republicans or teabaggers. Progressives are not dividing the party, progressives just might be the ones who save the party by shining the light of truth on the Democratic politicians who would rather protect the corporations that support their campaigns with massive contributions.

Conservatives just love to blame government social programs for our economic problems. They figure if they make enough noise about those programs, they will get their pet teabaggers fired up and maybe no one will notice that the real cause of our problems is their free market, deregulatory philosophy that allows greedy corporations and Wall Street gamblers to soak the rest of us for everything they can get.

Show 37 - Health Care Bill, Just The First Step!

As rational people, we should be gratified that passing the health care bill brings a small measure of security to American families. As realistic people, we have to realize that, due to the endless distortions, half-truths and out and out lies of the Republicans, the health care bill was watered down to placate them and is only an incremental measure, there must be more changes for a complete fix of America's health care problems.
Many of us wanted government run, single payer health care to give America's families complete peace of mind and security. What we have now is an incomplete fix to a problem that isn't going away. Although corporate lobbyist dollars can override our votes, we can't compromise the health and safety of our citizens just to protect corporate profits! Show 36 - The Double Whammy, Age Discrimination In Hiring!

It's rough getting a job these days. For anyone between forty and sixty-four years old, it's virtually impossible. Although there are laws against age discrimination, hiring managers have become expert in skirting those laws.
All of this goes on with a wink and a nod from almost everyone, even so called "employment experts". Did you ever read an "advice" column on an internet job search site that "advises" you to drop years of experience from your resume to make you appear younger to a potential employer? We're talking about valuable experience that would be an asset in a sane society. The reason the "expert" is telling you to drop the experience is that age discrimination has become the rule, not the exception in the "good old USA".

He has made it clear that he will attain his goals with or without their help. His speech showed that he has finally made the unemployed and the beleagured middle class a priority.

Show 26 - The Worst of Both Worlds!

Over the past twenty or so years, America's concept of what is fair to the middle class and poor has evolved, or should I say devolved. The average working person has lost almost any hope of being a part of the American dream. He or she has seen corporations eager to outsource his job to China or India and a federal government that has done little to prevent that from happening and, in fact has given outsourcing tacit and in some cases overt support. Show 21 - All Things To All People.

When we voted for Barack Obama and a Democratic majority in Congress and the Senate, we expected to get a government that works for John and Jane Q. Public. As Democrats, we expected our electeds to put our needs before the needs of multi-national corporations. We expected a vast sea change from the previous eight years of pro big business, pro big money government. Well that didn't work out, did it?
We now have a two party system: The Republicans and The Bipartisans. The Republicans are unfied and have a party agenda that is basically conservative and pro big business, the Bipartisans are a conglomeration of progressive and Blue Dog Democrats who are Republican wannabes. When the Bipartisans, who are the majority in both houses need to pass legislation that improves the lot of John and Jane Q. Public such as a healthcare bill, they have a problem. The progressive side of the party has to negotiate with the Blue Dog side of the party and work out a compromise that usually winds up protecting big business' interests more than it protects the average person. Essentally, the Blue Dogs are the spoilers that are the Republicans ace in the hole.
Our President was elected to bring about change. His campaign slogan was "Change We Can Believe In".
One of his primary campaign promises was healthcare legislation that would put us on a par with every other industrialized nation. In order to accomplish that, he has to take a proactive role from day one. He had to personally lobby each and every member of Congress and the Senate and make his preferences known in no uncertain terms.
He had to do exactly what LBJ did in the sixties to get Medicare passed. He had to be the driving force that unified each and every Democratic Congressman and Senator and got them to support the bill. He didn't do that. His mantra was that he was seeking bipartisan support. How did that work out?

Politicians like to use words that sound warm and fuzzy but are really cold and nasty. The pseudo patriotic term Free Trade which basically means that corporations want little or no government regulation so they can ship your job overseas is another example. These turncoats were swept into office on President Obama's coattails. They were voted in to support an agenda that reverses the damage done by eight years of a government that transformed the USA into a place that we could barely recognize, a corrupt nation that is devoid of any regulatory protection for the average citizen.
